Cedar & Slate was born on a snowy sunny morning. Our team which consists of a myriad of professionals had a vision to create something grounded, luxurious, supernatural and functional.

ABOUT NORA
Nora has always loved art, colours, energy and flow. After completing her own renovations over and over again, she fell in love with all things Home & Spaces. As co-owner of a General Contracting company with her husband Adrian, Nora directed, designed and facilitated the build of a spectacular Estate Home on two acres of bare land in Rocky View County Alberta on a whim and psychic revelation of “finding land close to home” when the couple was about to purchase an already built home only six minutes away. She also over saw and designed “tiny cottages” for Cottage Country in Alberta AND oversaw multiple commercial builds at the same time while raising FIVE children. Nora studied with the Interior Design Institute and is a member of the Real Estate Council of Alberta working as a broker with Real Estate Professionals. She subsequently wanted to fuse everything together and started Cedar & Slate in Calgary, Alberta. With a home office, expecting baby number six AND working as a PSYCHIC MEDIUM, we can honestly say Nora does it all. There is nothing this Renaissance Woman can NOT do. With a team of architects, engineers, contractors and of course spirits, Nora is here to change the future of Home Renovations in ways you could only imagine.

Modern Farmhouse
The “Modern Farmhouse” style is where old and new intermingle. Large open layouts nuanced with natural light fused with rustic country elements prefacing the beauty of the Earth. At Cedar & Slate we love exposed wooden beams featuring a stone clad fireplace, soft textures and contemporary art weaved throughout the homes palette. The vision is to create a feeling of warmth and comfort in a more traditional home without sacrificing luxury. Creating vertical lines of accent panelling will draw your eye up to create length and stature in this ultimate space of substance. Custom wooden shelves combined with barn doors mixed with modern and vintage furniture will achieve the contemporary look warmed with a farmhouse style. This is a space where you can smell the memories of baked goods as a child while planning for your future.
Scandinavian
The “Scandinavian” style weaves together muted colour palettes, carved woods born of birch, beech and pine mingling together with cozy throws, clean lines and furniture from mid-century designers like Alvar Aalto and Arne Jacobsen. This style is minimalistic whilst dancing with soft textures and hues to create a space that feels warm and inviting with modern and sleek decor. With this concept our team will emphasize clean lines, simple furnishings that will always serve a function in this space. Imagine coming home to a Nordic Landscape no matter your demographic with touches of Forest Green, Burnt Orange, Dusty Rose and Pastel Blue; A less is more approach inspired by the simplicity we can experience in life at times. Neutral walls, wooden floors and modern furniture are the fundamental principals we integrate to bring this concept home for you.
Coastal
The “Coastal” design features a relaxed and fresh style that brings your soul back to those lazy summer days or that serene holiday where the sun, surf and sand set at your feet. This space is created to evoke a beautiful, bright and energizing aura reminding us that life’s a beach. When we are creating this concept the fusion is nuanced with relaxing, airy and cheerful atmospheres utilizing milky whites and vanilla tones accented by the mysterious and calming hues of the Earth’s oceans. Close your eyes and imagine louvre windows, natural area rugs, open winds and large glass bottles and vases adorning seaside picturesque hued furniture. We embrace casual furnishings, slip covered in neutral layers while characterizing the reflection of the natural seaside in the home through colour and texture.
Hollywood Glam
Nothing speaks Opulence like Cedar & Slates concept of “Hollywood Glam” interiors which will will always hold a special space in spaces. Luxurious, opulent yet always comfortable, we will develop an interior that consists of Victorian inspirations with antique furnishings. We love to showcase velvet plush furnishings and antiques with pops of vibrant colours and bold designs blending reds, purples and turquoise. Think old Hollywood meets modern day design when we start to develop this space. With statement furnishings, chandeliers, mirrors and shimmering textures throughout you can have a room for every mood. It is in this Regency design we will create open layouts fuse them with high contrast colours weaving together the practical with the theatrical. Unlike most professionals that come into your space, Nora is a master of transforming homes both structurally and energetically.

Nora has a passion for older homes; homes with a history; homes that are in need of a physical and energetic transformation in both the bones of the home and with the clients she is working with. She fuses her spiritual gifts with her work in the home by using her “inside out approach”. Unlike most designers, Nora prefers to “meet the homes” first. She likes to go into the home and connect with the land, the structure, the energy and if any, spirits that are connected to the space. She listens to the story of the home. Once she is has completed this introduction, she then meets with the clients and shares her experiences before diving into the formalities of the renovation; this often curates an experience for the clients whilst developing an understanding of what the home requires to make this a success for all involved. Once the team has developed a solid plan, Nora then creates a thoughtful, functional and beautiful design unique to the space and the homeowners, this is where the unique nuanced renovation comes together. It is here where Nora brings traditional design processes, space, colour, decor, furnishings and a vision alive for this dimension, honouring the past while breathing new life into the home for the future.
